Game Design Documents

This page will showcase examples of Game Design Documents I have created. Being able to create comprehensive design documents is a skill I've used to help document my design process in different projects.

Skirmish

This is my game design document for my final year project "Skirmish":

Skirmish is a 3D Action Hack-n-Slash game where players control Axel, a "Remnant Slayer" who can summon crystalline clones. Players can use the "Phase System" to manipulate their clones to assist them during combat. By playing well, players can fuse with clones and enter Eclipse Mode to easily defeat enemies.

Design Goal

The design goal of this project was to create a game that embodies the design pillars of aggression, experimentation, tactics, and style. The focus is on keeping the player on the offensive and encouraging experimentation with combo combinations. Each enemy requires a unique tactic that forces the player to use their clones strategically and stylishly.

Disorderly Combat

This is my game design document for my competition project "Disorderly Combat":

Disorderly Combat is a fast-paced 3D movement shooter where players manipulate energy to their advantage. The player's energy doubles as their health, and decays with each movement. The Entropy System drains energy from surroundings to refill the player's energy and allows firing of condensed energy as damaging "Entropy Weapons". To survive, players must strategically manage their energy while using "Entropy Weapons" to eliminate enemies and manipulate the terrain to reach the end of each level.

Design Goal

The design goal of this project was to create a unique core mechanic that could be used in various ways. I decided to create an engaging mechanic suitable for an FPS game. Another objective was to develop an underlying mechanic that would encourage the use of the core mechanic. The enemy and level design should revolve around the core mechanic's design.
